First appointment

What happens during the first session?

The first appointment is a calm orienting conversation. You do not need to arrive with a finished explanation. We start with what brings you here and look at what might be helpful next.

Structure

A first session should create direction

The aim is to understand what you are seeking help with. It is also a chance to sense whether the way of working feels right.

01

We start where you are

You can describe what made you reach out now. It may be clear and specific. It may also feel harder to define.

02

We notice patterns

We look at situations, emotions, thoughts, relationships and behaviours that may be important to understand.

03

We talk about aims

The aim does not need to be fully formed. Often the first session is about finding a beginning.

04

We choose a next step

If continued contact feels right, we agree on direction, pace and practical structure.

How long is the first appointment?

For individual therapy, the first appointment is 60 minutes. Follow-up sessions are usually 50 minutes.

For couples therapy, the first appointment is 90 minutes. This gives both people more space to describe their view of the situation.

Do I need to know which method I want?

No. You do not need to know whether CBT, ACT, EFT or existential therapy is the best fit. We assess that together based on what you are seeking help for.

Can the session be in English?

Yes. Sessions can be held in Swedish or English. It is also possible to move between languages if that feels most natural.
